The Body Scrub

Exfoliation rids the skin's surface of any dirt or oily residue and rubs off the uppermost layer of dead skin cells, and thereby preparing the skin to effectively absorb and react to the essential oils.

The following is a list of basic body scrubbing tips to help you make the most of your exfoliation process.

Benefits

  • stimulates and circulates lymph fluids which aid in the elimination of toxins,
  • serves as a stimulating massage and improves blood circulation,
  • and affects the secretion and production of the body's natural oils.

Directions

  • the entire body should be scrubbed each day, if only for a few minutes,
  • first time scrubbers should be gentle on the skin in the beginning; do not be abrasive and irritate the skin,
  • as skin becomes more resistant to scrubbing (over time), more vigorous pressure may be applied to stimulate the skin,
  • scrub in a circular motion, starting with the feet, ankles and legs, then working the hands, arms and shoulders, and gradually work down your back, finishing up the torso towards the heart,
  • rinse the body with cool water following your body scrub to further activate blood circulation throughout the body,
  • finally, pat the skin dry and apply your essential oils, either in a lotion or body oil form.

Tools

  • use a tool that is comfortable in your hand, a sisal matt, towel, loofah, sea sponge, or stiff brush,
  • wash your scrubbing tools thoroughly with soap and water and hang them to dry after each use,
  • you may also want to alternate tools to allow them to dry properly and to have a different feel on your skin.
